Many people may know that the human safety voltage is 36V, but many people do not necessarily know that the static electricity in the human body can usually reach several thousand volts or even tens of thousands of volts. Although electrostatic discharge (ESD) will not cause life-threatening to the human body, it can easily cause fatal damage to semiconductor products such as LED displays. This is why when visiting many LED display workshops, they are required to wear protective equipment such as shoe covers, static rings, and static clothing.
1. The hazards of electrostatic discharge (ESD)
ESD (electrostatic discharge) often occurs in any link in the process of LED display production, transportation, installation, etc. Due to irregular operation, the product is broken down by static electricity, causing sudden and potential damage to LED display products.
1. Sudden damage reduces product yield and increases enterprise costs
Sudden damage refers to: the voltage between two or more pins of LED product components exceeds the breakdown strength of the component medium, resulting in serious damage to components and loss of function. This kind of damage can usually be found in the quality inspection during the production process, and will not directly affect the customer's use, but if the manufacturer is subject to static electricity for a long time, it will increase the production cost.
2. Potential damage affects the service life of the product and causes losses to customers
Potential damage accounts for a higher proportion of electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage, reaching more than 90%, and because the pulse energy of static electricity causes local heating of the lamp tube or IC, the failure of the breakdown lamp tube and IC occurs during detection cannot be found in. However, the product becomes unstable, and the phenomenon of dead lights appears one after another in the subsequent use of customers, which greatly affects the service life of the Flexible LED Mesh Curtain display and causes losses to customers.
Second, the prevention of electrostatic discharge (ESD)
To minimize the harm of static electricity to LED displays, manufacturers, distributors and customers need to strictly implement the ESD20.20 standard in the process of production, transportation and use. In production, the static electricity is directly discharged to the ground through the wire connection, which is the most direct and effective anti-static measure.
1. Static electricity prevention at the production end
Conduct electrostatic knowledge and related technology training for personnel using electrostatic sensitive circuits.
During the production process, workers are required to wear grounding electrostatic wrist straps. Especially in the cutting, plug-in, debugging and post-welding processes, and do a good job of monitoring, the quality personnel must conduct an electrostatic test on the wristband at least every two hours, and make a test record.

When soldering, the electric soldering iron should use anti-static low-voltage constant temperature soldering iron as much as possible, and maintain good grounding.
During the assembly process, try to use a low-voltage DC electric screwdriver (commonly known as an electric batch) with a grounding wire.
Ensure the effective grounding of production pulling tables, glue filling tables, aging racks, etc.
The production environment is required to be grounded with copper wires, such as floors, walls, and ceilings used in some occasions, and anti-static materials should be used.
During daily operation, LED display products should always be stored in anti-static bags or containers.
2. Electrostatic prevention at the transport end
When transporting, the transport vehicle shall be kept grounded, and the box or other equipment shall have conductive wheels or drag links.
When touching LED products, keep the correct handling method, and do not directly touch the PCB board and the electronic components on it.
3. Static electricity prevention on the client side
Customers and engineering companies also need to strictly follow the anti-static operation when installing the screen, and do not directly touch the core electronic components of the product without protective measures.
When installing the steel structure of the screen, do an effective grounding to guide the static electricity of the screen into the ground.
